Experienced anglers and leisurely fisherman are sure to have a good time participating in the 2011 Team Trout Championship at Lilley’s Landing in Branson on February 26! The winners will be awarded with cash and prizes by catching the heaviest rainbow and brown trout, and this year you could win up to $800 for catching the heaviest brown trout. Anglers must enter the contest in teams of two and use only artificial bait. Those who are not competitive but still want to participate can enter the catch-and-release tournament taking place at the same time. Many of Branson’s theaters and shows will be closing during December for the rest of the season, and if you’re planning an early Christmas vacation in Branson, you’ll want to reserve your show tickets today. Every year, approximately 40,000 visitors gather near Branson’s streets for their annual Adoration Parade and Lighting Ceremony, and this year’s 62nd parade promises to be just as exciting as years past. Come down December 2 and feast your eyes on the decorated, well-lit floats that move along downtown Branson, which feature holiday themes like Santa and his reindeer.
The highlight of the Branson Parade will be the beautiful nativity scenery that provides the true meaning of Christmas for spectators. You’ll be able to view the entire manger scene where baby Jesus, Mary and Joseph are the focal point. Viewers will see all these sights and more with festive music to bring out the spirit of the holiday season for all visitors. View all 70 of the floats and marching units, which have marched down the Branson streets since 1949.

As a salute to all American veterans, the Branson Veterans Task Force will be promoting the “Veterans Homecoming Week,” taking place on November 5-11. Everyone is invited to be part of the event, and special tributes and entertainment will be used during the week to show just how much our veterans mean to us, whether past or present. Branson is known for celebrating the commitment and sacrifice of veterans, and this year promises to be just as honorable.
Members of the community and visitors from around the nation are strongly encouraged to attend and bring friends who have served in the military. Throughout the week, special Branson entertainers will present special music and performances to provide a true salute to America’s heroes. Carpenters and artists are invited to take part in the Fall Rendezvous II Woodcarving seminar at the Convention Center in Compton Ridge Campground. Taking place on Oct. 17-21, the event will help those who were inspired from Branson’s Titanic Woodcarving competition which took place earlier in the month. Whether you’re an experienced veteran with a carving knife or are interested in learning a new craft, the seminar will provide classes for all to attend.
Woodcarving classes will go from 9-5 with a break for lunch in between. After classes, woodcarvers are encouraged to practice what they’ve learned for the day. Instructors will place a special emphasis on the upcoming Christmas season, so woodcarvers can work on holiday themed projects if they wish.

See the colorful and rich paintings of famous artist Jim Rodgers at Mount Pleasant on September 18 during the evening, from 5-7 pm for the “Meet the Artist” event. Rodgers, whose painting style is focused on acrylic and oil, will be provide a plethora of pictures and designs for audiences to see along with wine and cheese reception. The admission is free, so you’ll certainly want to see Rodgers’ works and meet him as well.
Rodgers will be painting a variety of images that will truly demonstrate the experience and creativity he has as an artist. You’ll see oil paintings of fresh vegetables and fruit, seasonal terrains, detailed portraits and the attractive Branson Belle to show his Branson spirit!
The creative art of Rodgers will be on display for the six weeks following in the Mount Pleasant Winery in Branson. If you would like to purchase a piece, most of the art will be on sale so you can take a piece of Branson back with you. A new artist will be announced for the next “Meet the Artist” every six weeks. On September 19, the city of Branson will host one of the 34 qualifying events nationwide for the 2010 Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3. A $25,000 prize will be given to the winner of the event, and Branson is sure to see many professional athletes arriving on qualifying day. The event consists of several grueling activities, starting with a 1.2 mile swim on Table Rock Lake, followed by 56 miles of bicycling through the rough Ozark mountains and finally a two-loop 13. 1 mile run.
The final event will take place in Clearwater, Florida, but this qualifying round is sure to attract a large crowd. Spectators are welcome to watch the last leg of the triathalon-type event, so you may grab your spot along the road as the runners drive their legs to the finish. The competition is limited to 2,000 athletes, and each one will be as eager as the next to compete globally!
