Titanic Museum Hosts Free Ice Carving Competition


Titanic Sloping DeckOn January 16, 2010, the Titanic Museum in Branson will host the 4th annual Ice Sculpture Competition, which is free to the public. Visitors can come and watch experienced carvers create works of art from solid blocks of ice.

 In last year’s event, 18 professional and amateur carvers worked on 250 pound blocks of ice to create a beautiful piece of art. During the event, visitors can talk to the carvers and see the works in progress. In addition, the National Ice Carving Association will be on hand to judge the pieces and announce the winning sculpture later in the day. The competition runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In other Titanic news, visitors have only a limited time left to enjoy two of the special exhibits at the Titanic. December 11 and 12 are the final days to see Santa’s Reindeer at the museum in Branson. The museum has several live reindeer on hand, and guests can take pictures and pet the reindeer. The reindeer are available from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.

In addition, the museum’s special exhibit about the Titanic movie directed by James Cameron will leave the ship on January 1, 2010, leaving visitors only a few days left to see this rare collection. The movie memorabilia collection contains pieces and artifacts from the movie, including set pieces and authentic costumes. The highlight of the collection is the diamond and sapphire necklace that boasts over 16 carats of diamonds and a 155 carat sapphire.

Outdoor adventurers will welcome an exotic adventure right here in the Ozarks at Branson Zipline and Canopy Tour, which will begin its inaugural season in the spring. Branson Zipline and Canopy Tour is located just a few miles north of Branson off of Hwy 65. This tour includes several zip lines and walkways, and the course covers about one mile. The Branson Zipline also contains an ecological aspect, and you can enjoy learning about the topographical and geographical aspects of the Ozarks, as well as see the varied flora and fauna. Zip line tours grew to popularity in Costa Rica and other tropical climes, but you can experience the thrill of a canopy tour in Branson!

In addition to brand new offerings, Branson will also be debuting new additions at veteran attractions. Silver Dollar City has been working on a new ride, and it will debut in the spring as a part of Silver Dollar City’s 50th anniversary, which will be celebrated all year long in an on-going party. The $7 million dollar Tom & Huck’s RiverBlast will be the U.S.’s biggest water battle ride attraction. This ride features rafts equipped with water blasters that the riders can use to shoot other rafts as well as onlookers standing on the banks of the White River. This ride is designed to soak riders and is sure to be a highlight of the summer season.

Two shows new in Branson in 2009 have added new features to their performances. Bill Medley and Paul Revere and the Raiders at Andy Williams’ Moon River Theatre will be welcoming Bill Haley’s Original Comets for a combo show this summer, and Andy Williams will return in the fall and winter. Yakov’s Moscow Circus will be returning for another season, and this year the circus will also have a dinner and lunch show option. In addition to seeing the circus love story, visitors can dine on an authentic Russian meal.

Meanwhile, Branson visitors can also find some new events to enjoy in 2010. The annual Ozark Mountain Spring festival will host “See the World in Branson” in April and May. This special event will celebrate the many multi-cultural and international acts, performers, and restaurants fond in Branson. Later in September, the Ironman 70.3 qualifying event will take place in Branson, and athletes will be competing for a $25,000 grand prize as well as a chance to compete in the Ironman World Championship in Florida.

During this annual festival, Silver Dollar City is transformed by millions of lights. The highlight of the light display is Christmas on Main Street, Silver Dollar City’s largest light display. In addition, the park has a five story special effects Christmas tree that has a light show coordinated to holiday songs. Silver Dollar City also has a Christmas Holiday Light Parade that goes through the park twice a day.

Visitors to Silver Dollar City during this festival can also enjoy a range of live performances, including The Living Nativity and Frosty, as well as A Dickens’ Christmas Carol. Silver Dollar City shuts down for a week to get ready, every establishment in Branson puts up festive decorations and the shows in Branson begin their holiday celebrations. In early November, most of the shows in Branson will stop performing their regular summer/fall shows and begin their holiday shows. Branson-area Community Hosts Fiddler’s Convention


Branson-area Community Hosts Fiddler’s ConventionOn September 17 through 20, the State of the Ozarks Fiddler’s Association will be hosting the Bob Walsh Memorial Fiddler’s Convention at Compton Ridge Campground.

The Compton Ridge Campground is located just outside of Branson and features sites for RV as well as tent camping. The convention will take place in the main campgrounds. Fiddlers will arrive on Sept. 17, and Saturday and Sunday will feature fiddlers playing on three different stages. Performances start at 10 a.m.

A special feature of this year’s event is special fiddler’s workshops with the visiting artists. During the workshop time, visitors can experience live demonstrations and learn from some of the best fiddlers in the Ozarks.

Fiddlers visiting for the convention can receive discounts on RV and camping sites. Check the Compton Ridge Web site for more information about camping and this event.

Downtown Branson Hosts Autumn Craft FestivalAs the fall foliage in the Ozarks begins to slowly turn from bright greens to vivid oranges and reds, Ozarks residents and Branson visitors know that it is time for the annual Autumn Daze Arts and Crafts Festival.

The 36th Annual Autumn Daze Arts and Crafts Festival is set to take place September 17 through 20 in downtown Branson. Sponsored by the Downtown Branson Main Street Association (DBMA), this event draws hundreds of vendors from around the Ozarks to participate in this festival.

Over 150 vendors are already schedule to appear during the festival. Vendors include artists, crafters, wood workers, jewelry makers, artisans, and many more types of craftsmen. Vendors will be offering much of their work for sale. In addition, many food vendors will also be on site. The Autumn Daze Arts and Crafts Festival is a juried festival, which means that all vendors must go through an application and submission.

Admission is free for the festival, and booths will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The festival tents are located in downtown Branson on Commercial and Atlantic. For more information about this event, check the official DBMA Web site.

Super Summer Cruise in Branson Labeled “Branson’s Premier Car Event,” the Super Summer Cruise at The Shepherd of the Hills Historic Homestead is drawing near. The cruise continually draws thousands car enthusiasts from near and far for a weekend that historically has included such events as a burn-out contest, a worship service, live entertainment, and awards.

Held annually during the second weekend in August, this year’s Super Summer Cruise takes place from August 6 through August 8, and the events on hand figure to be as entertaining as ever. From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. thursday through Saturday, you can enjoy the Vehicle Show & Shine event at The Shepherd of the Hills, where over 500 cars are showcased. On Saturday from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., the Best in Show awards at Pavilion Theatre are taking place.

Without question, however, the premier event of the entire weekend is the Midnight Cruise. Taking place on Saturday right at midnight, the Midnight Cruise features a three-mile parade of classic cars along the Shepherd of the Hills Expressway and Highway 76. Eager onlookers line the streets to witness the participating cars.

The Super Summer Cruise typically consists of older models, normally from the 1950s and 1960s, but it’s not uncommon to find newer models of Ford’s, Corvettes, Chevy’s, and more. The fair, now entering its sixth year, is set to be held at the Branson Convention Center and will feature a range of information, products, demonstrations, and even free and low cost screenings from Skaggs Community Health Center. And best of all, both days will be completely free to the public!
