Carthage’s Annual Maple Leaf Festival on October 15!

The third Saturday of October you will find the largest parade in Southwest Missouri in Carthage, MO. It is the home of the Annual Maple Leaf Festival, and it’s close enough to Branson for a day trip. The parade is the Grand Finale of an entire week of fall celebrations for this wonderful historic town. Earlier in the week they hold the 5K Run, Sprint Dualthon, High Heel Race, a huge quilt show, and a variety of pageants. On the day of the Grand Finale Parade there will be Arts & Craft booths, a petting zoo, an auto show, a dog show, plenty of food vendors and live entertainment. Titanic’s 4th Annual Woodcarving Event Happening This Weekend!

The fall’s annual Woodcarving Event at the Titanic Museum in Branson gives tribute to the Titanic’s German passengers and crew, and you won’t be disappointed as you watch the wood carvers use chainsaws to cut out beautiful images and wood sculptures right outside the Titanic Museum in its parking area. Special techniques will be used to carve the exact image the sculptors would like to create, and there is special recognition given to the winner of the contest. It’s timed as well, so the wood carvers must make the most of their time. It will be an incredible craft to watch. While you’re in the parking lot of the Branson Titanic, you might as well check out this well-esteemed museum. Experience the splendor, wonder, and tragedy associated with the Titanic. There’s plenty going on in and around Branson this weekend. Saturday could be a packed day if you try to do all of these events, but if you’re not up for the challenge pick one or two that you would love to experience. It’s the perfect time of year for festivals and special events, the weather is wonderful and the smells of autumn are here.

White Flight Exhibit at the Butterfly Palace

The Butterfly Palace is always a unique interaction with nature, but during White Flight it becomes a magical romp through living snowflakes. Thousands of white butterflies and hundreds of poinsettias combine with twinkling light displays for a touching ode to the holidays that truly has to be experienced to be fully understood. Just imagine strolling through a peaceful, indoor garden accented by hues of red and warm lights as thousands of white butterflies flutter in every direction, giving the illusion of light snow skipping through the air. Aside from the new White Flight exhibit, the Butterfly Palace and Rainforest Adventures will still offer its many, typical attractions throughout the new year, including The Amazing Emerald Forest mirror maze, Insect Zoo and gift shop to ensure a full experience of fun.

Harvest Moon Festival in Forsyth, MO

Titanic Firehouse Chili Cook-Off

In the fall, the annual Titanic Firehouse Chili Cook-off releases its hot cuisine to the general public as a tribute to the firemen and stokers who bravely saved the lives of passengers when the Titanic sank. Watch as incredible chefs stir up a delicious mix of ingredients ranging from sweet and mild to fiery hot. Recipes will be judged by members of the general public as well as members of the judging team. Judges will test their taste buds and pick the chili that captures the spirit of the event. Winners of the chili cook-off will receive cash prizes as well as cheers from the crowd. Visitors and Branson locals are welcome to attend this grand event which honors the lives of the coalmen and firemen who boarded the Titanic and stood their ground as it started to sink. Many chefs with hidden talents will be stirring up a mean chili soup this fall, and the public is invited to get there early for taste-testing to form a general consensus on each soup.

This year, 2011, will be the 75th Anniversary of the Ozark Empire Fair. The fair takes place in Springfield at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds starting July 29 – August 7. Branson is just about 43 miles from Springfield, so if you’re planning a trip to Branson it would be a short (and not to mention worthy) drive to come experience the fair. Just grab some convenient lodging in Branson, check out the many remarkable shows and exciting attractions there, and then head to Springfield for the Ozark Empire Fair!

If you’re a food fanatic, you can’t miss the fair. Classics like funnel cakes, BBQ chicken, corn on a stick, and fried taters will be yours to enjoy. But not only are the traditional fair foods featured, there’s also sushi, fried green tomatoes, and deep-fried snickers, twinkies, and oreos! Wash it all down with a delicious drink such as blackberry tea, smoothies, or hand-dipped shakes. The fair is a paradise for lovers of savory treats.

Fun-seekers will have a blast will all the carnival attractions. The White Water Log Flume is a rare carnival ride (only four in the nation) that puts you in a boat and drops you down slopes that could you get you soaking wet! The largest portable slide ever made, the Mega Slide, spans 190’ so you’ll speed down the track with the wind in your hair. Reaching 120’ up in the air, the Giant Gondola Wheel is the classic Ferris wheel that will give you a bird’s-eye-view. Those are just a few of the rides coming to the fair, and the young and old will find attractions suitable for them.

There’s also going to be a lot of music happening. Disney’s Imagination Movers will be performing July 29th and the next night will be Smash Mouth. Dwight Yoakam, Ernie Haase, and Three Dog Night will all be showing up for a set. The Happy Together Tour will be coming August 3rd and the days after that will include bull blasts, truck and tractor pulls, and a demolition derby. You won’t want to miss any of this!

Round up the little ones for a special summer in Branson!

There is something for everyone in Branson, no matter what age. But now’s the time to let the kids have some fun. So, whether children or grandchildren, bring them to Branson where there’s a lot for them to do and see during the summer. Take a look into Cosmic Cavern and see a natural beauty of which the bottom has never been found. You’ll see stalactites, white-washed pillars, and the longest soda straw formations in the Ozarks (over nine feet long). It’ll be cool in the cave away from the sun at a nice 64 degree temperature. The young ones will love this exploration of an extraordinary natural wonder.

If your children love animals, the Amazing Pets show will win their hearts! Birds, dogs, cats, and other lively creatures put on a spectacular show as they perform impressive feats and hilarious antics. They’ll jump through hoops, balance on their noses, and fly through the air, creating quite a performance. Your kids will go home with an inspiration to train the family pet.

World’s Largest Toy Museum houses all the classic toys from as far back as the 19^th century. You can show your children what toys you played with at their age. Pop guns, GI Joes, Barbies, and wind-ups, the kids will wish they had toys as cool as these. Plus, it’s a chance to get indoors and out of the sun for awhile. Visit the toy museum and reminisce with the little guys.

White Water

Make a splash in the heat with the wet and wild attractions of White Water. You will be thrilled while traveling over 40 mph on the Kalani Towers, a 7.5 story waterslide. Take it easy in the brand-new Aloha River at Hula Hula Bay where you’ll float 800 feet in 300,000 gallons of calm, relaxing water. You can hit the courts for some sand volleyball, or grab a bite to eat at High Tide Hannah’s Island Café. The first of Silver Dollar City’s six festivals has begun and you won’t want to miss all the new entertainment this year’s WorldFest brings to the Ozarks. From April 7 to May 8, Silver Dollar City is transformed into a cultural bastion of dance, art, food and entertainment with the Russian Academic Band, Trinidad’s Footprints Diego Martin, and Ecuador Manta. New to this year’s WorldFest is Mayorov Russian Circus which showcases acrobats, clowns and amazing costumes. Canadian Powerhouse is a show not to be missed with their world-championship fiddlers and step-dancers. Also new is Rhythms of Rajasthan from India. Beautifully clothed folk dancers will enthrall audiences with their traditional instruments and enchanting voices.
